Andrew Anker, a colleague of mine at Six Apart had a great quote last week: "Blogs are the media in social media." Makes a lot of sense. The blog platform continues to evolve into a mature social media publishing system where the blogger is empowered to express their passions in a powerful way. There is no doubt that Blogs ARE media. From the casual blogger on Blogger to the more influential blogger on TypePad, a blogger's efforts have a wide range of possibilities. They can document their kids life through photoblogging or be a thought leader in technology and shape tomorrow's perspectives. With our recent launch of Blogs (www.blogs.com), I am constantly surprised by the richness of content that I can now find across the bests blogs. If I want to check out the latest dish on celebrities, I am learning about sites like The Bastardly or Egotastic. For Food, I can now show my girls sumptuous pictures of cupcakes on Cupcakes Take The Cake or learn about Valencay on Ideas In Food. People have such amazing interests and now that they are armed with the ability to create a blog, the world can now share in the "media experience" of ordinary people continuing to do extraordinary things.
